Five hectares by the sea

We dream of creating a centre for public health and the arts on the Reykjanes peninsula — a place where people can come, slow down and enjoy being close to unspoilt nature with unbroken views over the sea and the mountains. A place where every season has its own charm and nature sets the pace.
Hólmur Heilsa and Steinunn Saunagus sit on about five hectares of land by the sea, halfway between Reykjanesbær and Suðurnesjabær, at Leira. Old houses and new stand there, each with its own role and its own story, but it is the nature all around that gives Hólmur its special magic for relaxation. The tall uncut grass, the sandy beach and the sea, the mountain views and the wide sky. Northern lights and starry nights. Whales, seals, swans, geese and ravens.
Guided sauna rituals are a big part of the experience, and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy them with us. You can book open sessions with different sauna masters, or book a private session where guests can help plan the ritual or event themselves.
Hólmur is a place to catch your breath, breathe deeply and find your centre.
A unique natural experience by the sea.
Three 15-minute rounds in a good, hot sauna with music and natural aromas of birch, honey and kelp. Cooling in the grass, the sea or a bathtub between rounds, along with light refreshments.
Sauna masters lead guests through rounds with different music, pouring water and natural aromas onto the hot stones and spreading the heat around the sauna with a towel or fan, which increases sweating and cleanses the body.
Steinunn Saunagus takes its name from Steinunn the Old, kinswoman of Ingólfur Arnarson and a settler believed to have been the first woman to own land in Iceland — the very land Steinunn Saunagus stands on today.
We think Steinunn is the perfect name for a sauna ritual, as sauna masters love their stones to delight people.
Hólmur is at Leira, between Reykjanesbær and Suðurnesjabær — turn off Garðskagavegur and follow the road down to the sea.
